    Hey all.

Not long picked up a 2014 M109 and just last week went on a 3 day 1300km ride and loved it.

However I noticed that second gear seem a bit clunky to go into gear. I tried shifting differently to see if it made any difference. But found shifting slowly almost seems worse. There’s no slip or jumping out of gear.

Not sure if it’s an issue or I’m just being over concerned for nothing.

    Thoughts appreciated.

G;day Aj 2nd gear clunk is normal in most of the boulevard range . there is a mod you can do but most riders just get used it. It's not anything to worry about.

Pretty common. One of the tricks I found was put pressure on the shift lever prior to clutching. Made it a bit better. After a while you get used to it

1st to second gear change is like changing gears on a tractor, it’s a bit rough, and it’s inherent of the M109R.
The best way to change gears is to match the engine revs whilst changing.

There is a star shifter that you can install, this puts more pretension on the gear shifter, not a bad bit of kit and it does help...

It's a tractor gearbox, shift it like you mean it. It'll still clunk, but it'll be a firm solid clunk

Hell if people think the 9 has a harsh gearbox they should talk to their parents about the affects of helicopter parenting. In 12 years of riding the 9 never found it an issue at all. Try driving a 1938 fordson tractor or wearing boots instead of Gauci sandals.

    yep I have the same...
either when taking off at a slow pace, shift into second not long after and it just pops in nice and clean..or
give it a bit a stick to show others you are riding a 9 and shift with meaning into second...don"t hesitate ....nice solid clunk....you will get used to it and it gets easier with each go

No bullshit, since I got louder pipes, I hardly notice the clunk. Concentrating more on that gorgeous smooth rumble
