Last Sunday morning Jac and I were stopped at Cowan NSW for RBT - NEGATIVE. To cut long story short, I was issued a Notice of referral of vehicle to the Department of Environmental and Climate Change (DECC). 'Allegedly", yeah right, as reported: "twin chrome exhaust pipes excessively noisy". I am expecting a letter from DECC to have my bike's exhaust tested. To add more irony LAPD couldn't find my turn signals and I was asked to indicate left and right turns. Thankfully blinkers were not reported in the notice. I have scorpion tips stock pipes with removed catalytic converter. Has anyone had similar experience and how was it handled?

Thanks Scotty. My understanding a defect notice will be issued if my pipes proven to be over a legal noise level on inspection. I'm not really worried about it. I will pass the test as I have stock exhaust pipes. My another question, will my bike be checked for anything other than what is reported in this referral? Will I have to pay for this inspection even if I pass?

Don't be surprised of the stock pipes fail.. So far as I know they are right on the limit and any modification could push them over..

Sorry boys for holding back with the follow up. Yes, the letter came in on 28th Feb (within 3 weeks and a bit since referral was issued) with the advice on legal noise level of 98dB on 3100rpm in neutral along with the options for EPA Approved Inspection Stations. I went to Campbelltown as the closest. My fully stock exhaust was tested at 50cm away and 45 degrees angle. Three readings were taken and averaged to 96dB. As noted above, the stock exhaust was just sitting on the edge of legal dBs. Well, this is the game we play and this process is a part of it ... . ps. cobra long shots will be going back on soon and NASA Scorpion Tips will be hanging and etching to go back on again eventually ....

Nice one... My V&H Big Shots came in at 109dB... I knew it was a waste of $68 when the tester came out, looked at them and said:" Vance and Hines, never passed a set yet"
