    Hi all,

I've got a 2012 m109r with about 10k on the clock and a bit of a ticking noise that I can't seem to figure out. It sounds like a loud tappet but lower down.

Listening around with the help of a screwdriver it's most noticeable on the left side behind the rear cylinder. I didn't take the secondary gear case cover off, just touched the screwdriver on the crankcase just above it, below whatever that black box is (is it a breather?)

Noise changes with engine revs and it's more noticeable when the engine is hot and it seems loudest at around 2500-3000rpm when riding. Engine load and clutch engagement don't seem to change anything, can still hear it in neutral at idle.

    Any ideas?
    Will.

I'll sell it to you cheap eh Scotty :p

It's not a loud ticking and the bike still runs fine, so I'm guessing it's nothing to worry about and probably normal. Still curious about what's in the back of the motor there. I've got a scanned PDF service manual but it's hard to tell from the photos, looks like maybe a balance shaft? Anyone have an overview or blowout diagram?

I had a tick in the front cylinder when I got mine. Sounded tappety... Been riding the sh-- out of it and nothing has let go yet... I thought buckets were out of tolerance but not the case and I haven't worried about it..
Not saying there's nothing wrong but In my case, if something were, I'd have found it by now.. Good luck mate..

Thanks Hally. I'm fairly sure it's fine but I'd feel much better if I knew what the likely source was. If I ever get a spare minute I'll do some more investigating.

Also, the ticking was there cold and hot.. checked oil levels etc.. mentioned it at my first service too and they didn't find anything (they were very thorough).
